Dr. Haji Joharudin bin Samion was appointed to the IIB Board on 1 June 2025. He brings over 25 years of experience in landscape architecture, urban design, construction management, public administration, and academia.
He has held several key positions in the Johor State Government, most recently serving as the Principal Private Secretary to the Chief Minister of Johor and Chief of Staff at the Chief Minister’s Office. In this role, he plays a pivotal part in policy execution, stakeholder engagement, and crosssectoral coordination.
Dr. Joharudin is widely recognised for his contributions to the built environment and is committed to fostering sustainable, resilient, and peoplecentric urban development. His unique blend of technical expertise and governance experience strengthens IIB’s role in driving catalytic development within the Iskandar Malaysia economic corridor.
In 2025, he completed executive education at the Harvard Kennedy School, USA, in Negotiation Strategies: Building Agreement Across Boundaries.
He holds a PhD in Architecture, specialising in community resilience. He also holds a Master of Science in Construction and Contract Management from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from RMIT University, Australia.
